Only for those who cannot stop traveling!!
The Big Trek tour covers all the most important destinations in the South Western region of Africa. Start out in Cape Town (or Windhoek) and visit a wide range of landscapes, wildlife and historical & cultural venues.
The majestic Cedar Mountains in the Western Cape includes breath taking scenes, taming with natural beauty. The quaint little fisherman’s villages along the South African West Coast invite visitors with the best seafood that money can buy.
Then of course the Fish River Canyon – a natural wonder that impress throughout a visit. Drive through the interesting landscapes while on your way to Ludritz. Just outside Aus the Namib’s Wild Horses continue their battle against the elements. Believed to be the last herd of feral horses on the African continent, their presence is invaluable.
A visit to Kolmanskop just outside Ludritz, brings history to life. A live display of life at the beginning of the 1900’s is accommodated in the abandoned buildings of that time. The buildings are slowly losing the battle with the battering from constant wind & sand. Ludritz is the link between the Atlantic Ocean and the South of Namibia. Enjoy great seafood in a town where life goes slowly.
Visits to the Namib Desert reveal a total different picture than what meets the eye. Animals and plants adapted to these harsh conditions over millions of years. Many species of antelope, insects and reptiles are residents of the Namib Desert. Sossusvlei and Sesriem are two of the most visited places in Namibia and for very good reasons. The massive dunes near Sossusvlei are believed to be some of the highest on the planet. A kaleidoscope of light plays itself out between the dunes early in the morning and late afternoon.
We include Swakopmund in this tour due to its excellent hospitality. Enjoy special moments in one of the many restaurants in the town or go on a boat cruise in Walvis Bay. Visit the Moon Landscape just outside Swakopmund or go on a “Living Desert” tour to get close and personal with the Namib Desert animals.
On to Damaraland: Granite masses with remnants of ancient rock engravings. Visit the Ugab River – home to the Desert Adapted Elephant. Messum Crater and the majestic Brandberg while on the road to Twyfelfontein. If the wildlife in this area interest you, make sure not to miss a visit to the Hoanib River at Sesfontein – this is where the big ones are.
Kaokoland is home to the Himba. Visit the Desert Adapted Elephant in the Hoanib River and check in at Epupa Falls for a well-deserved rest in the sub-tropical climate on the banks of the Kunene River.
Conclude your tour with a visit to Etosha National Park and Waterberg Plateau National Park.
